Hair Styles Makeovers

How many times a week do you wake up and just hate the way your hair looks? Is your hair too frizzy, too dry? Is it too thick, too thin? Do you have a unappealing hair cut? Do you ever get compliments on the way your hair looks?

Don't despair, because there is hope for your hair style. The options for changing or fixing your hair are many and whether you are willing to spend thousands of dollars or just a few dollars, there is something that you can do.

Some of the major hair problems are Damaged Hair, Frizzy Hair, Thinning Hair and Unflattering Hair Styles. There are quick, inexpensive fixes. See below for complete details:

Damaged Hair:

The easy fix for damaged hair is deep conditioning treatments. Ask your hair stylist for the best product for your hair, or take a trip down the hair products aisle at your local drugstore. If your hair is extremely damaged, you may want to start with a once weekly deep conditioning treatment. Wash your hair normal in the shower and towel dry. Apply the deep conditioner all over the hair and wrap the hair with plastic. The plastic helps to keep heat in and make your conditioner go to work. Leave the conditioner on for about 30 minutes.

Also, try to give your hair a rest from heat appliances such as curling irons and blow dryers, as well as chemical processing.

Frizzy Hair:

It seems that as you get older, your hair tends to get frizzier. The weather and humidity never help. The easy fix for frizzy hair is to use lots of conditioner every time you shampoo, and follow with a serum or balm that contains silicone. Some products work better than others and it may take some experimenting to find just the right product for your hair. Although flat ironing your hair can zap away the frizzies in just a few minutes, you should limit using the flat iron since you might be adding to the frizzy problem in the long run with repeated use of the iron.

Thinning Hair:

As more and more women are experiencing thinning hair, the hair products industry is developing more and more products to help with this issue. If you have serious thinning, you may want to visit a dermatologist for more treatment options. Find a good daily vitamin to take that is designed for hair and skin issues. Many of the hair loss products companies, like Nioxin sell a daily vitamin that is supposed to support hair growth.

Hair extensions offer a temporary solution to camouflage the thinning hair, but you must be very cautious about the type and method used as hair extensions have been known to cause even more thinning issues if not done properly.

Unflattering Hair Styles

If you are not happy with your hair style, then you may want to start over by evaluation your face shape. The shape of the face can really make or break a hair style. Knowing what you should have or shouldn't have in a style can be crucial to the outcome. With the invention of hair style imaging software, you can do a little research before you get your hair cut. Some programs even allow for you to try on a hair style by uploading a picture of yourself. This software even works for checking out a color change.

In short, if you want to do something about your current hair style and feel lost, then you should know that there is hope out there and you could make just a small change to update your hair and grow to love it.

Long Hairstyles

Long Hairstyles
Long Hairstyles

Pushed into the spotlight by the popularity of Sarah Palin (or notoriety of Tina Fey), long hairstyles are making a big comeback!

Long hairstyles have long been a favorite of the young-at-heart as well the jet-set and glamour girls. Whether curly or straight or layered into a shag haircut, long hairstyles exude confidence and up-to-date style. Let's look at several latest trends for the best look with long hair.

Long Hair Updo

Whether you're a supporter or not, you can't argue that Sarah Palin has brought back the business casual, long hair Updo. In the past two months there has been a resurgence of the once popular style. Popularized by its sophisticated and versatile look, the long hair Updo works well with eyebrow length bangs as well as a pull-back and over the ears.

Its versatility comes from the non-nonsense business look when pulled-back with the ponytail folded over or under, as well as the more casual appearance when the ponytail is allowed to hang down.

The greatest versatility of the long hair Updo comes from the classic iconic "let your hair down" option at the end of the day. It allows a transition from business to casual a snap while making curly or straight designs work. As an added bonus, the long hair Updo cools you off during the summer or warmer months. Having hair long enough to give you this flexibility can be a welcome relief on a hot day in a suit!

If you are looking for the "I'm a Governor" or business executive look and want the Family-oriented casual look flexibility, a long hairstyle with a Updo is the perfect look for you.

The Long Curly or Straightened Look

This weekend at our son's Lacrosse game I overheard a conversation between my wife and a close friend. This friend's son has one heck of a head of hair - curly hair...very curly hair in big waves. She commented that if she didn't straighten her hair with hair products or use a flat iron, her hair looked the same - big and curly.

Now, if you didn't know her, this is hard to picture, but she has long (below the shoulder blades) straight and beautifully colored hair.

She has taken a long hairstyle and layered it with the first layer brushing her shoulders and bangs that extend below the ears. This gives her substantial versatility and a range of looks for her long, curly hair.

One, for a casual look she pulls her bangs behind her ears and has the perfect combination of a sorority/soccer mom look - young and playful. With the bangs long enough, she can pull them straight back and pin with a clip, scrunci' or beret. This gives her the business look she is after at PTA meetings and the hair style looks great.

Though rarely done, she can leave the hair natural and get a great long, curly look. Albeit she takes care to use hair products - leave-in conditioners and moisturizing shampoos - to avoid tangles and the "bird nest" look all too common when long curly hair is left unchecked.

Long hairstyles are coming back - fast! They are sophisticated and can give you great versatility and fashion options. Curly or straight, thick or thin, long hair can be beautiful and right for any occasion or personality.

Permanent Hair Straightening
This hairstyling method can only be done by professional hairstylists. Certain kinds of chemicals are used in this kind of treatment. The chemicals produce sulfur bonds in the hair that enables them to break up thereby allowing your hair to straighten.

Chemical Method
This hairstyling technique must be taken with utmost care. It utilizes certain alkaline chemicals that cause the hair to puff up. Then, it cuts into the sulfur bonds inside the keratins. In case the chemicals get stuck for a longer period of time, it may lead to permanent damage. For this reason, it is very important to take the necessary precautions when doing this treatment. Before you undergo in this kind of procedure, make sure that you apply protective cream onto your hair to shield it and scalp against the harmful effects of some chemicals.

Hair Straightening Irons
This method is the most popular way to style the hair. The large plates of the hair flat iron are designed to cover large portions of the it once. Majority of the straightening irons have ceramic plates which allow for even distribution of heat all over your hair. This way, you will be able to avoid any form of damage. There are flat irons with multiple temperature settings that will correspond to any type of hair. Because of this, hair irons are considered to be the most common technique for straightening and styling the hair. However, you must be careful in using the iron since it may lead to burns and damage if used inappropriately.

On the whole, it is of the essence to practice after-care when you have your hair straightened using a flat iron. See to it that you care for it on a regular basis so as to prevent damage. Use only mild shampoo along with a strong kind of conditioners to take care of your straightened hair. This is necessary to protect it from breakage. Also try to shun from heat hairstyling devices. To keep your hair healthy after the straightening procedure, you must deep condition it at least every two weeks. Thus, you get straighter, smoother and shinier hair.
